Project Detail: Mentorship programme
- School mentorship campaign
Mentorship as been viewed over the ages as key point in any teens life since as the say goes ,you can only be great or greater than he who mentors you. The immediate solution as psychologists would put it is kids look up unto a mature person as good example to follow hence mentorship is the back bone of upright growth for the young ones. We take mentorship seriously and rather than general talk for motivational purposes we believe on a practical example and our doctrine like principle, “To be in power, you have to be underneath power.” As the principle states the only way to be who you want to be,is to be mentored by someone who is already there. Practically the best mentor to a child who aims at being a lawyer is an active advocate,so is an engineer, teacher, doctor, driver so on so forth. Our mentorship is centered on attaching professionals or student professionals in the University to aspiring pupils in primary schools and students in Secondary schools. For the university level we believe in internship can only make sense if the students in question are attached to offices doing their profession.
The journey for this mentor and mentee is meant to last a life with the most insistence advise is they become friends leading to a family bond that can only lead to a future of even working together in the future. We believe motivation is just one of the ingredients to good mentorship and if its done well ,the future we all attest of leaders/professionals can be actualized. First rule of mentorship, create a good relationship with your mentee and walking together to an already optimistic future can be realized.
- Community mentorship campaign
Our target in this mentorship is the urban poor or what was famously known as slums. Apart from the stereotyping of all slums we can not contest the fact that slums are marred with a lot of negativity. From lack of resources, social amenities, unworthy roads,no sewer systems, health facilities are scarce, schools are an issue, drugs and crime are prevalent and poverty seems to be order of the day. Within the same line of thought we have a lot of school drop outs, idle teens and a lot of unemployed personel within the same area. All this negativity is bad ingredient to the statistics of high crime rate, premature deaths,HIV infection, drug usage, social degradation, teen pregnancy and washed down community morals.
To curb or help in reducing the same challenges, mentorship becomes key but in this instance it has to be applied according to the unique situations. Our mentorship is centered with the teens where we engage them in talks on different forums and platforms, helping them make a choice to reform by offering substitute means of making a living.
Talk without action in a community viewing themselves as most suffering has no impact or results hence the mentorship is centered on forming of groups, registering the same, training them on sustainable means and helping them fund raise for sustainable programmes. The optimistic view is to help them actualize their dreams in implementing programmes that are life changing not only for themselves but the community at large.
This helps reintegrate the reformed young people back in school, attach them to talent oriented institutions to sharpen their talents and better still offer entrepreneur classes to help in business opening and create a booming economic culture in the same society. The mentorship would not be complete without applying the unique factor of attaching them to mentors doing the same things as themselves. The mentorship works well with unemployed people, teens in drugs, teens prone to crime and peer pressure, school drop outs, any available person in the society.
